The San Francisco 49ers made headlines by trading up for the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and they are widely projected to take a quarterback at that spot. The recent odds have seen Ohio State's Justin Fields jump over Alabama's Mac Jones as the favorite after the two were previously tied.
Fields now has +125 odds to be selected No. 3, according to NFL Draft odds posted on FanDuel Sportsbook. Mac Jones follows closely behind with odds set at +170, while Trey Lance (+290) and Zach Wilson (+1000) fill out the top four spots.
Justin Fields NFL Draft Odds
Fields had a prolific collegiate career and lead the Buckeyes to a 20-2 record as their starting quarterback. He passed for 5,373 yards and 63 touchdowns during his two seasons at Ohio State. He also showcased his versatility by rushing for 867 yards and 15 touchdowns during that same span.
Mac Jones NFL Draft Odds
On the other side, Jones balled out during the 2020 season, completing 77.4% of his passes for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns. He played a major role on a Crimson Tide team that won the National Championship and is seen as a natural target for 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.
These odds are likely to keep changing up until the 49ers are on the clock at the end of April, but it seems to be a two-man race right now. You never know what San Francisco general manager John Lynch is up to, though, so this is a storyline worth keeping up with throughout the offseason.
