New Dodgers Outfielder Reveals Big Injury Update

The Los Angeles Dodgers had a relatively quiet offseason by their standards, letting more talent leave than they brought in with the goal of getting under the luxury tax.
Even more concerning is that one of their few notable offseason acquisitions -- outfielder David Peralta -- revealed a pretty significant injury update on Monday.
David Peralta had off-season back surgery to address a herniated disk, something he said slowed down his free agency but still landed him in his preferred landing spot — Los Angeles.

David Peralta Injury Update
According to The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya, Peralta underwent offseason back surgery for a herniated disk. The veteran outfielder believes that's why he didn't garner much interest on the free-agent market, ultimately settling for a 1-year, $6.5 million deal with Los Angeles just last week.
That's not a great development for a 35-year-old outfielder, especially one who hasn't exactly been the model of durability throughout his career. Peralta's averaged only 109 games per season over the last four years and saw his power numbers fall off a cliff in the second half with the Tampa Bay Rays last year, as he didn't hit a single homer in 47 games with the Rays.
The Dodgers are hopeful that the offseason surgery can restore some of that power and help Peralta get his swing back. The former Gold Glover and Silver Slugger-winner is a quality all-around player when healthy, so LA can only hope that his recent procedure doesn't have any lingering effects.
