An injury report update and announcement by the Charlotte Hornets has significantly impacted the Rookie of the Year odds at FanDuel Sportsbook. LaMelo Ball is back on top as favorite as he's now expected to return sometime next week after being sidelined with a wrist injury since mid-March.

NBA Rookie of the Year Odds

Ball is now a -330 favorite to win the Rookie of the Year and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has dropped back to second at +240. Sacramento Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton (+950) has fallen further back with the announcement of Ball's upcoming return. Haliburton is third in scoring for rookies at 12.6 points per game and shooting a blistering 41.5% from beyond the arc.

Ball was the No. 3 overall selection in the 2020 NBA Draft. He won three consecutive Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month Awards to open the season in January, February and March. Ball is averaging 15.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game in 41 contests.

Among rookie leaders, Ball ranks second in assists, third in points and fourth in steals. His Hornets (28-29) are currently the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference, positioning them for a spot in the NBA's play-in tournament.

The Timberwolves (16-44) are at the bottom of the league standings with the Houston Rockets. Edwards, the No. 1 overall selection in the NBA Draft, has been providing a solid scoring punch at 18.3 points per game. That leads all rookies in scoring, but he's shooting just 40.0% from field and is fourth on the Timberwolves in scoring.

Edwards was leading the race less than 10 days ago until the announcement of Ball's upcoming return. Here's a look at the rest of the odds to win the Rookie of the Year.

1. LaMelo Ball, Charlotte Hornets (-330)

2. Anthony Edwards, Minnesota Timberwolves (+240)

3. Tyrese Haliburton (+950)

4. Immanuel Quickley (+6500)
