The Washington Nationals limped to 65 wins this year, but that wasn't fault to veteran shortstop Alcides Escobar. He was a mainstay in Washington's lineup and offense following a two-year break from baseball.

Washington was clearly impressed with his veteran presence and according to reports, the Nationals have re-signed Escobar for the 2022 season.

According to the reports, Escobar's deal will be one year in length, although financial terms have not yet been released.

Escobar stepped right into a struggling Nationals offense and slashed .288/.340/.404 through 75 games. After the team dealt away Trea Turner to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Escobar performed quite well as a next man up and immediately became the team's starting shortstop.

On a team ready to rebuild, it's worth bringing in veteran pieces to maintain a competitive level of play in 2022.
