With the 2021 MLB season quickly approaching, projecting the MLB award winners is a top offseason activity and that includes the National League Cy Young. This prestigious award is handed out to the top performing pitcher and the odds on who will win it have already been posted.
New York Mets ace Jacob deGrom is a heavy favorite with odds set at +380, according to player future odds posted on FanDuel Sportsbook. This is no surprise as he's won in two of the last three years and also finished third in the voting last season. He is followed closely behind by the reigning winner, Trevor Bauer, with odds set at +700.
After winning the NL Cy Young award in both 2018 and 2019, deGrom kept up his brilliance by posting a 4-2 record in 12 starts during the 2020 season to go along with a 2.38 ERA. He also struck out a National League-leading 102 batters and heads into 2021 with his eyes set on keeping the Mets in contention to make the playoffs. It would be the first time they would do so since 2016.
Trevor Bauer has already made headlines this offseason signing a massive 3-year, $102 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He shined last season with the Cincinnati Reds posting a 5-4 record in 11 starts and leading the National League with a 1.73 ERA. He also struck out 100 batters and will look to repeat that kind of performance with his new team.
Of course, it'll take a stellar season to take home the NL Cy Young award and it's anyone's game at this point.
