After a fantastic season with the Cincinnati Reds, veteran All-Star outfielder Nick Castellanos reportedly opted out of the remaining two years on his current contract. Many teams around the MLB will be interested in his slugging bat and ability to play both right field and third base.

Castellanos slashed .309/.362/.576 during his age 29 season as he set a career-high mark with 34 home runs and added 100 RBIs.

Check out the three most likely free-agent destinations for Castellanos.

Nick Castellanos Free Agency

1. Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox fell short of their World Series hopes despite one of the most complete rosters in baseball. The offense and pitching both ranked top five across the MLB, yet Chicago's season ended in the ALDS. Right field was a major area of concern. Adam Eaton led the rotating door in right field, but only played in 55 games and slashed .201/.298/.344 on the year. Castellanos' bat would not only be a major upgrade, but make this White Sox lineup truly scary from top to bottom. Chicago currently has about $35 million in space below the luxury tax and contracts could be moved to make this work.

2. San Diego Padres

San Diego's second-half collapse was one of the most intriguing stories in baseball. It all culminated in the firing of manager Jayce Tingler. One thing was clear - this roster underperformed. Tommy Pham is an impending free agent and the Padres will need to bring him back or find talent elsewhere. That's where Castellanos enters the equation. Pham is a better option defensively but also older in age at 33. He slashed just .229 /340/.383 this season and Castellanos is an upgraded bat if he's able to replicate his 2021 success.

3. New York Mets

The New York Mets may be in the conversation again for a number of big-name MLB free agents. The front office does need to solve it's personnel before any major moves are made, but New York is also in the market for a corner outfielder. Michael Conforto is a free agent and it's unclear if the Mets want to keep him around long term after a disappointing .232/.344/.384 slash line with 14 home runs and 55 RBIs this season. New York's outfield leaves a need for plus-defense, but the Mets may be willing to forgo that need for Castellanos' A+ hitting.
