The start of the MLB Postseason is just a week away. There's still some business to be taken care of, especially in the NL East, but a clear picture of legit World Series contenders has emerged.

In celebration of the best tournament in October, The Athletic conducted an anonymous players poll about some hot topics around the league. This included questions surrounding the best bet to win the title, and which player you'd want starting Game 7 of the World Series.

With over 200 MLB players surveyed around the country, one New York Mets ace was crowned as the best potential Game 7 starter.

That's none other than Jacob deGrom.

Max Scherzer, the other Mets' ace, finished as a runner-up in this category. deGrom took home a resounding 33.9% of the vote while Scherzer came in with 17.2%.

The Athletic's writers recorded a few descriptions that came in from the players who voted for Scherzer. This included a “I’ve seen it and it’s f—ing incredible," as well as “That guy’s a f—ing gamer.”

Either way, the Mets have the best 1-2 starting pitcher punch in the big leagues. Between deGrom and Scherzer, the pair own a combined 283 wins, 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings, 2.81 ERA and 5 Cy Young awards.

This duo is the best of the best and will strike fear into the minds of opposing postseason hitters this October. The sports betting community agrees with this justified fear. Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Mets hold the third-best odds (+500) to win the 2022 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
