Now that the second half of the 2022 MLB season is underway, contending teams are doing what they can to make a push for this fall's postseason. With several teams on the cusp of a playoff spot, one has to wonder which of them can make a second-half push in the coming months.
The Chicago White Sox were listed as potential second-half contenders by MLB Network on Monday. Analyst and former MLB catcher Anthony Recker said that the White Sox are too talented not to make the postseason and have all the tools to turn things around shortly.
White Sox News
Expected to be World Series contenders before the season began, the White Sox have struggled with consistency from the get-go. The club is fortunate to be in the playoff picture despite those struggles, sitting only four games back of the Minnesota Twins for the top spot in the AL Central.
Recker points to the White Sox's offensive struggles as one reason why they haven't met expectations, averaging 4.41 runs per game (No. 15). Fortunately, things have turned around for Chicago lately, averaging 5.36 runs in its last 14 games, resulting in a 9-5 record in that span.
If the White Sox can build off their recent moment, making the playoffs is a real possibility. The good news gets even better because Chicago's 66 remaining opponents average a .466 winning percentage, giving the club the second-easiest remaining schedule, according to Tankathon.
With Jose Abreu, Tim Anderson, Luis Robert and Andrew Vaughn all batting .298 or better, it was only a matter of time before the White Sox's offense started to flow again. Only time will tell if they can ride their newly rediscovered firepower into a playoff spot.
White Sox World Series Odds
The White Sox need a strong second-half performance to get them back into oddsmakers' good graces. FanDuel Sportsbook is currently listing Chicago at +4500 (T-No. 11) to win the 2022 World Series.
