MLB Insider Lists White Sox as Perfect Trade Fit for Five-Time All-Star

The Chicago White Sox have been disappointing this season for several reasons, but their fans don't care right now. Even after those struggles, the White Sox are only four 3.5 games out of the AL Central's top spot, positioning themselves as potential buyers ahead of next week's trade deadline.
Averaging 4.41 runs per game (No. 16), the White Sox could use some help offensively. One slugger that MLB insider Mike Petriello sees the club potentially pursuing is the Boston Red Sox's J.D. Martinez.

White Sox Trade Rumors
Some fans might be surprised to see Martinez's name involved in trade rumors. At the same time, the Red Sox appear to be heading in the wrong direction lately due to poor play and injuries. Unless there's an immediate turnaround, Boston would be wise to move the upcoming free agent.
The five-time MLB All-Star has nine home runs and 38 RBIs through 81 games this season. Those totals aren't necessarily as impressive as past performances, but they're still more than respectable, as is his .302/.368/.481 slash line.
The White Sox haven't been able to trust outfielders AJ Pollock and Gavin Sheets to consistently produce offense this season. Not only would Martinez be an upgrade over the duo in the batter's box, but he'd also bring valuable experience from the Red Sox's 2018 World Series victory.
Having said that, Petriello thinks it's more likely that Martinez would slot in as the designated hitter. Regardless, he's viewed as a "pure rental," meaning the White Sox won't have to mortgage their future if they plan on seriously pursuing him before Aug. 2.
White Sox World Series Odds
Martinez is the type of player that could give the White Sox's championship odds a boost. FanDuel Sportsbook has Chicago available at +4500 (T-No. 11) to win the 2022 World Series this fall.
