After a somewhat surprising start the Oakland Athletics have predictably and unsurprisingly cooled off and now posses the second-worst record in all of baseball at 21-42 — better than only the Kansas City Royals.

Oakland had a fire sale in the offseason, trading away stars Matt Olsen and Matt Chapman, and later starting pitcher Sean Manaea. Despite losing all of that talent, and the Athletics terrible record, some sought after pieces still remain on the squad.

In a recent article surrounding the trade deadline, ESPN's Bradford Doolittle highlighted outfielder Ramon Laureano and ace Frankie Montas as the top two potential trade candidates for an Athletics team that will absolutely be sellers at the trade deadline.

Ramon Laureano Trade News

Laureano is a talented outfielder that would bring a boost to any contending team or one on the brink of contending that needs help there. While he's only hitting .241 so far this season, he is a career .261 hitter, a great defender and has 20+ home run power.

Frankie Montas Trade News

Montas, on the other hand is having a great season, pitching to a 3.40 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP in 13 starts this season. Talented enough to be an ace for a number of teams, Montas would surely be a top two or three guy on nearly every playoff team and he will come along with a high price tag because of it, one that some teams will be more than happy to pay for a pitcher of his caliber.

The MLB Trade Deadline isn't until August 2, but that doesn't mean we won't see players shipped out earlier than that. With rumors flying and more and more popping up every day, it's surely set to be an interesting summer as teams try to separate themselves from the pack.
