The New York Mets failed to live up to expectations in 2020 as they finished fifth in the National League East division with a 26-34 record. They head into 2021 looking for a fresh start and are seen as one of the top teams competing for the NL pennant.

Mets fans should be excited to see that the team currently has the fifth-highest projected win total next season set at 91, according to MLB odds posted on FanDuel Sportsbook. They only trail the Los Angeles Dodgers (103.5), New York Yankees (95.5), San Diego Padres (94.5) and Atlanta Braves (91.5).

The Mets made headlines this offseason when they traded for star shortstop Francisco Lindor from the Cleveland Indians. Lindor has been one of the most consistent hitters in the MLB and has hit 78 home runs over the last three seasons. He also brings speed (28 stolen bases in last two seasons) and the ability to get on base (Career .346 OBP) to the middle of a strong Mets offensive lineup.

When it comes to the pitching side of the game, the Mets are led by frontman Jacob deGrom. The pitching ace has won the NL Cy Young award in two of the least three seasons and hasn't posted an ERA over 2.43 in any season over that span. He remains one of the best pitchers in the MLB.

If the Mets want to compete for a World Series title and crush their projected win total, they will need to do something they haven't been able to since 2006. That was the last time the Mets won more than 90 games in a season. So strap in, Mets fans. This is sure to be an interesting season in one way or another.
