The Seattle Mariners may be long shot to make the playoffs with +5500 odds to win the American League, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, but this team is making some noise by exceeding expectations.

Seattle owns an 18-17 overall record and sits in third-place in the AL West. Still, this hasn't stopped the Mariners from calling up one of the best prospects in all of baseball in Jarred Kelenic.

Jarred Kelenic Call Up

On Monday, Seattle quietly announced the call up of their top prospect via the Mariners PR Twitter page. However, Mariners fans likely won't let this promotion fly under the radar for long. MLB.com ranks Kelenic as the Mariners top prospect and the fourth-best prospect in all of baseball.

Kelenic, a 21-year-old center fielder, could make an immediate impact at the MLB level. He's a five-tool player lauded for his incredible ability at the plate. In fact, Kelenic pretty much forced Seattle's hand after tearing up Minor League pitching during his first week of live action in 2021.

Seattle’s minor league affiliates got their first chance to play this week in nearly two years as fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. In just his first week at the Triple-A level, top-prospect Kelenic scorched opposing pitchers with a .444/.500/.778 slashing line including two home runs, five RBIs, two stolen bases and eight hits in 18 at-bats.

Seattle will be thrilled to see their top prospect get a chance to take on some MLB pitching. Kelenic came over to Seattle in the blockbuster Robinson Cano-New York Mets trade. Here's a video of Kelenic's two home-run contest during his onslaught of hitting this past week.
