NFL OTAs and minicamps are starting to get underway across the league, but there are a few big-name free agents still left on the market, including safety Malik Hooker. Reports say Hooker is aiming to sign a one-year deal before the start of training camp as he looks primed to have a bounce-back campaign.

A number of NFL teams should be looking to upgrade their defense as kickoff of the 2021 season quickly approaches. With that in mind, here are three of the most likely free agent destinations for Hooker.

Malik Hooker Rumors

1. Pittsburgh Steelers

Hooker has reportedly already visited the Pittsburgh Steelers and it would make a lot of sense for him to end up in the Steel City. The Steelers have built a reputation for thriving off of a tough defense that doesn't allow opposing offenses to make big plays down the field. Although the team doesn't have an explicit need at safety, with Minkah Fitzpatrick performing at an All-Pro level, Hooker is a former first-round pick who could provide some depth and versatility. The 25-year-old would be a great gamble for Pittsburgh to take.

2. Dallas Cowboys

It is no secret that the Dallas Cowboys' defense struggled throughout the 2020 season as it gave up 29.6 points per game, which was the fifth-worst mark in the NFL. Any free-agent signing would be seen as an upgrade and Hooker comes with a lot of upside. He has posted 7 interceptions and 124 tackles across 36 career games. Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn needs playmakers on his squad and adding Hooker would bring along very little risk. However, it could bring a lot of reward if things pan out.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars are another seemingly good fit for Hooker given he played for head coach Urban Meyer during his time at Ohio State in college. Hooker has the skills to outperform expectations and is able to cover all kinds of opposing pass-catchers. He could slide into a starting role on this defense and create an intriguing duo in the secondary with Rayshawn Jenkins. Jacksonville is looking to get back to the playoffs as soon as possible and signing Hooker would only improve their chances at achieving that goal.
