It's been less than a week since the World Series ended and teams around baseball already have their sights set on free agency. That includes the Boston Red Sox, who have a number of important decisions to make on key free agents.

Shortstop Xander Bogaerts opted out of his contract earlier this week, and now MLB insider Kiley McDaniel has revealed the expected price tag for his next contract.

Xander Bogaerts Contract

McDaniel's projection, which stems from conversations with various MLB executives and agents, indicates that Bogaerts could net a contract worth six years and $168 million ($28 million per year).

That's a clear bump from the remaining three years and $60 million Bogaerts had on his current deal. Boston enters the offseason with the clear intention of keeping him around and maintaining their current middle infield structure with Trevor Story at second base.

The Red Sox will have plenty of competition for the four-time All-Star on the open market, however, so they'll have to pay up if they want him back.
