With Tom Brady out of the division for the first time since 2000, there could finally be a changing of the guard in the AFC East. That hasn't exactly gone unnoticed in Buffalo. The team has loaded up for the 2020 season, acquiring talent like Stefon Diggs, AJ Epenesa, Daryl Williams and Zack Moss.
It appears the Bills' efforts are paying off as Dan Hanzus, of NFL.com, put Buffalo at No. 6 overall in his latest power rankings.
That puts Buffalo a whopping nine spots ahead of the New England Patriots, who Hanzus has at No. 15. Unsurprisingly, neither the New York Jets nor the Miami Dolphins crack Hanzus' top 20.
It's not hard to see why he's so high on Buffalo, either. Bringing back a mostly-intact defense that surrendered the second-fewest points per game (PPG), the Bills should once again be able to stifle opposing offenses.
And the addition of Diggs could help open up this offense. With one of the strongest arms in football, Allen had a solid 9.3 average depth of target (aDOT) last season. He wasn't particularly effective when going downfield, though, completing 18-of-68 passes that traveled at least 20 yards in the air.
With Diggs playing alongside John Brown, Allen finally has the personnel to take advantage of that rare arm talent.
Boasting an improved offense and an elite defense, Buffalo's place in Hanzus' latest power rankings is well deserved.
