Latest NFL Draft Trade Rumors Highlight Seahawks for Potential Move
The Seattle Seahawks are looking for a new direction, and that means they're a wildcard heading into Thursday's NFL Draft. Seattle is in an attractive position with the No. 9 overall pick, which gives them the chance to take one of the top players, or potentially pursue a deal and move back while gathering more assets.
The latest draft rumors pinpoint the Seahawks as a team tha's very active in trade talks ahead of Thursday's first round.
Seahawks Draft Rumors 2022
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports said Wednesday that Seattle is one of the teams he's "hearing the most about in potential trades." The two other squads mentioned alongside the Seahawks are the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers.
Seattle seems like the most obvious trade down candidate out of that group. The departure of Russell Wilson means this team won't be competing anytime soon, so getting back even more draft assets to retool would be very beneficial.
This draft lacking the usually deep pool of quarterback talent also means the Seahawks would likely be reaching if they do choose a QB at No. 9. By moving back, they can allow someone else to squander a high draft pick on a prospect who's likely not worth it and focus on getting the best player later on, all while having more selections in their pocket.
Given Seattle's needs at offensive tackle and EDGE, there's no ruling out the possibility of them moving up, too. This draft features several players at those positions who could already be off of the board at No. 9, so making a jump up may be the only way to land a franchise OT/EDGE.
The first round of the NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 28 at 8 p.m. ET.
