Fresh off of his first-ever MLB All-Star game nod, the 2022 season has not gone according to plan for Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta. The 25-year-old righty was forced to leave his start early on Sunday as he dealt with right shoulder tightness.
Unfortunately, Peralta's latest injury update is only making matters worse.
Freddy Peralta Injury Update
Peralta is set for an MRI on Monday to reveal the exact extent of his arm injury, but the Brewers already placed their All-Star starting pitcher on the 15-day IL.
The 23-year-old lefty Aaron Ashby is on roster and will fill in for Peralta's starts during his absence, assuming it's the minimal 15 days.
Peralta has not yet found his groove in 2022, pitching to a 4.42 ERA across 8 starts. His 11.6 strikeouts per nine innings is also the lowest mark since his rookie campaign in 2018.
Fortunately, the Brewers' starting pitching staff will be able to sustain a short test of its depth. Ace Corbin Burnes leads FanDuel Sportsbook's odds to win the NL Cy Young, and Eric Lauer's 2.16 ERA has him in contention as a dark horse for the award.
