The Baltimore Ravens handed the New England Patriots their first loss of the 2019 NFL season with a 37-20 win on "Sunday Night Football." In the victory, Lamar Jackson did things other QBs haven't been able to do against the Patriots' defense this season, throwing for 163 yards and one passing touchdown along with 61 rushing yards and two more TDs on the ground.
His single-game performance nearly outscored the other eight quarterbacks the Patriots have faced when it comes to fantasy points – combined.
Jackson's 28.6 fantasy points is less than five fewer than the total racked up during New England's previous eight games. The Patriots D/ST has still given up the fewest fantasy points to the QB position this season with Baker Mayfield's 11.6 points in Week 8 being tops prior to Jackson's outburst on Sunday night.
The Ravens QB continued his effectiveness on the ground as he now ranks 10th in the league in rushing yards with 637. His three touchdowns nearly matched the season total given up by the Patriots defense too; the unit had given up just four TDs during its first eight games.
In standard scoring fantasy leagues, Jackson is averaging a league-high 26.2 fantasy points per games. At his current pace, he would surpass the point total of last season's league MVP, Patrick Mahomes, by 2.2 points. With 44.8 percent of his total fantasy points coming from his rushing production this season, Jackson is his own breed of quarterback.
That Jackson was able to do what he did against a defense like the Patriots, we'll have to wait and see what he can pull off over the remainder of the season.
