The Denver Broncos are approaching the start of the 2021 NFL season hoping that it treats them better than the previous campaign did. The Broncos missed the playoffs for the fifth campaign in a row, leading to a sense that the team needs to show improvement in 2021. Unfortunately, some of Denver's bad luck from 2020 is carrying over into the current offseason.
Broncos wide receiver K.J. Hamler was held out of Tuesday's OTAs after hurting his hamstring. While the hope is that it isn't anything serious, Hamler's injury is concerning when you take into account that an injured hamstring saw him miss time in 2020.
K.J. Hamler Injury Update
When asked about Hamler's injury, Broncos coach Vic Fangio said, "We're being very cautious with that." The reason why the injury is this concerning is that the 21-year-old wideout dealt with nagging hamstring injuries throughout his rookie season. In fact, Hamler's hamstring issues date back to August of 2020. Considering how that was nearly a year ago, you have to wonder when the young wide receiver can finally put these problems behind him.
The re-aggravation of the injury couldn't have come at a worse time for Hamler. The No. 46 overall selection in 2020 was slated to be the No. 4 wide receiver on Denver's depth chart. He finished his rookie campaign by catching 53.6% of his targets for 30 receptions, 381 yards and 3 touchdowns.
FanDuel Sportsbook has Denver as a fringe team when it comes to making next year's playoffs. The Broncos currently have +156 odds of qualifying for the playoffs and the possibility of them missing out is set at -190. If they want the best odds to go on a playoff run, they're going to need Hamler to be as healthy as possible.
