Every year, fantasy football is impacted by different injuries suffered by the players throughout the season. Sometimes those injuries can even carry over and impact the following fantasy football season.

That seems to be the case for the Detroit Lions, as recent news came out that Kerryon Johnson has been wearing a knee brace during practice to go along with limited snaps. That means rookie second round pick D'Andre Swift's fantasy value is now on the rise.

Before this news, Swift was ranked the third best rookie in fantasy football this season, behind just Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Jonathan Taylor. Seen as a valuable handcuff, Swift is expected to start the season behind Johnson, a player who has already missed a total of 14 games in his first two seasons.

Swift had standalone value before this news, as he was a solid rusher as well as receiver at Georgia, catching 73 passes in three seasons, and he could easily become one of Matthew Stafford's top targets out of the backfield. In the eight games Johnson played last year, he only accumulated 10 receptions, showing he's not much of a pass-catching RB.

Even when he was healthy, Johnson averaged 15.4 touches per game last season, which isn't exactly a workhorse running back number, suggesting Swift could still see solid work as the No. 2. If Johnson's injury continues to linger as the beginning of the season approaches, Swift could find himself with an even higher volume of touches than originally expected, with the potential upside to be a workhorse RB himself if Johnson misses any time.

There is room in Detroit for Swift to showcase his talents, and if he performs well, there is a path for him to secure the No. 1 running back spot on the team sooner rather than later.

His average draft position (ADP) is No. 64 overall, per FantasyPros, but we can expect that to climb if Johnson's injury concerns don't quickly clear up.
