It's been a tough start to the 2020 season for Sam Darnold. With the New York Jets failure to put a decent roster or coaching staff around the former USC quarterback in his first three seasons, the team is now in strong contention for the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and the opportunity to select Trevor Lawrence.

If Lawrence is simply too good to pass up for the Jets, Darnold could be in need of a new home, and former college teammate JuJu Smith-Schuster loves the idea of Darnold joining him in Pittsburgh.

That's my guy, man. Sam Darnold, if we could get him to Pittsburgh, I would, but I love Ben [Roethlisberger] so it is what it is. I'm just saying he's a great kid. I played with him so he's one of my boys so I wouldn't mind playing with him again."

While Ben Roethlisberger is clearly entrenched as the starter in the Steel City this year. and enjoying another fine season so far, he is in the twilight years of his career and injury-prone. With just two years left on his deal, it could be beneficial to all parties for the Steelers to acquire Darnold and let him sit for a year behind Roethlisberger, learn from one of the game's greatest and get fully integrated into one of the league's most successful franchises before being handed the keys.

Of course, this all depends on the Jets and what they plan on doing with their former No. 3 pick.
