It's been a disappointing season for the Philadelphia 76ers so far. While they entered the year with championship aspirations, those have been quickly derailed by injuries to James Harden, Tyrese Maxey and others, leaving the club at 8-8 so far.

Fortunately for the Sixers, center Joel Embiid has stepped up in their absence and is off to a historic start this year.

After leading the NBA in scoring at 30.6 points per game last year, Embiid has increased his scoring average to a career-best 32.3 points per game this year. He's also continued to dominate on the boards with 10.1 rebounds per game while dishing out a career-high 4.6 assists per game.

It's been an impressive start for the 28-year-old big man, to say the least. To put his run in perspective, the last player to average 32+ ponts and 10+ rebounds through his first 12 games of the season was Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo all the way back in 1975-1976. McAdoo accomplished his feat for the Buffalo Braves, who no longer exist.

Unfortunately for Philadelphia, Embiid has caught the injury bug as well and will miss at least two games with a foot injury. That leaves the 76ers woefully shorthanded for tonight's game against the Brooklyn Nets, where Philly is listed as an 8-point home underdog on FanDuel Sportsbook's NBA odds.

Sixers fans are hopeful that Embiid can return to the court soon and continue his MVP-caliber season. He currently has the fifth-best NBA MVP odds (+1000) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
