Jets vs Patriots Spread Surpasses Dolphins vs Cowboys as Biggest NFL Betting Line of Week 3

When the Week 3 NFL lines opened, the Dallas Cowboys were listed as 21-point home favorites over the reeling Miami Dolphins, per FanDuel Sportsbook. It was understandably hard to imagine any team surpassing the Cowboys as the biggest favorites of the week, but then Week 2's "Monday Night Football" happened.

The New York Jets were already without second-year quarterback Sam Darnold, due to a case of mononucleosis (mono), but they then lost backup QB Trevor Siemian to a gruesome ankle injury in the second quarter. The Jets would go on to lose an ugly one to the Cleveland Browns, 23-3.
Since 1966, there have been 35 instances of a team closing as a 21 point or more favorite. Those teams are 35-0 in the games...but are 11-22-2 ATS https://t.co/IBTiW6GEwh
NFL Spreads Week 3
The Jets take on the New England Patriots in Week 3 with third-string QB Luke Falk at the helm, and New England has now risen to a 23-point home favorite. The Patriots initially opened as 17.5-point favorites Sunday night prior to Monday night's game, so this is quite the shift.

The Cowboys' line has moved a bit as well, as Dallas is now a 21.5-point favorite over Miami. Still, the Patriots are the Super Bowl favorites (+340) and they've also become the biggest spread favorite in the league in back-to-back weeks.
For the first time since 1987, we have multiple NFL games with 20-plus-point spreads in one week. The last time it occurred was Week 5 1987, a strike year.

Dolphins at Cowboys -21
Jets at Patriots -21.5
The spreads would suggest that both the Patriots and Cowboys should escape Week 3 with victories, but there's a reason these games aren't played on paper.
