Every team in the NFL already knows who they will be facing during the 2022 season, just not the specific dates and start times. That will be revealed at 8 p.m. ET on NFL Network on May 12. The San Francisco 49ers have surely already circled a couple of daunting matchups on their schedule.

While the 49ers have gotten close over the last few seasons, they have not hoisted the Lombardi Trophy in over two decades. Getting back to the Super Bowl will be no easy task for head coach Kyle Shanahan, so let's take a look at the three hardest matchups San Francisco will have in 2022.

San Francisco 49ers 2022 Schedule

1. @ Los Angeles Rams

Fans are in for a heck of a game more often than not when the 49ers meet up with the Rams in divisional play. Five of the last six matchups between these two teams have been one-score games. Its' safe to say quarterback Matthew Stafford still has a sour taste in his mouth after losing to San Francisco in overtime at SoFi Stadium in January of last season. He was able to get his revenge in the NFC Championship game, but another win here would cement him as the best QB in the division. The Rams have no shortage of talented players on the roster, headlined by a seven-time All-Pro in defensive lineman Aaron Donald.

2. vs Kansas City Chiefs

This will be the first time the 49ers and Chiefs meet since Super Bowl 54. The 49ers blew a 10-point fourth quarter lead in that game and ultimately watched as quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named the MVP. Jimmy Garoppolo has to have revenge on his mind if he ends up earning the starting gig or else he will have to hope Trey Lance gets the job done, instead. The Chiefs have ranked among the top 10 in scoring in each of the last five seasons, but they did lose a couple of key defensive players to free agency. The 49ers have a chance to earn a crucial win here if they can take advantage of a weakened Kansas City secondary.

3. @ Denver Broncos

Traveling to Mile High is challenging for NFL players across the league for a number of reasons. The air is thinner, the crowd is rowdier and now quarterback Russell Wilson is leading the team on offense. The nine-time Pro Bowler has a ton of experience playing against San Francisco thanks to his time spent with the Seattle Seahawks and owns a stunning career record of 16-4 against the team. Denver has the weapons for Wilson to succeed, too, as wide receivers Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy will be patrolling on the outside. Shanahan will have to hope his secondary can step up to the plate or it could be a long day at the office.
