Grant Delpit is Being Disrespected by NFL Draft Odds

Coming off their undefeated national championship season, several LSU players are going to be taken early in the 2020 NFL Draft, including All-American safety Grant Delpit.

Grant Delpit NFL Draft Odds
However, the oddsmakers at FanDuel Sportsbook don't expect Delpit to be rewarded with a first-round selection. The latest odds on Delpit have him at -176 to be selected outside of the first round, an implied probability of 63.8 percent.
Considering Delpit's accomplishments and his athletic talent, those odds might come as a surprise to many. Delpit was ranked by many experts to be the top safety off the board. USA Today's Draftwire had him going as high as No. 3 overall in September 2019. In the meantime, he was a key part of the team that won the National Championship.
Delpit's play-making ability and positional flexibility should make him a can't-miss prospect, but teams have apparently dropped their opinion of the LSU star. Although, Delpit had a slight drop-off in tackles and passes defended, those defensive stats shouldn't be a major discounting factor for scouts. Scouts have expressed concern about missed tackles, but Delpit suffered a minor ankle injury last year that should be fully healthy by 2020.

Given that Delpit was a first-round lock just a few months ago, it's hard to fathom why his odds to be selected among the first 32 picks have dropped so much. There's still a good chance a team near the end of the first round in need of a safety takes him. It's hard to imagine that not being great value considering Delpit's resume.
