The 2021 NFL season was another struggle for the New York Giants, who missed the playoffs for their ninth time in 10 years. Improving the defense will be one of management's focuses this offseason, especially after New York surrendered 24.5 points per game (No. 23).

The Giants currently only have two safeties under contract, making it a position that could use some depth. One player who could help fill that void is none other than Malik Hooker of the rival Dallas Cowboys.

Giants Free Agency

Some fans might hope to see veteran safety Jabrill Peppers return in a Giants uniform next season, although, he's going to get a lot of attention on the open market. Having said that, Hooker is a suitable replacement.

The 25-year-old ballhawk finished his fifth NFL campaign with 44 tackles, a pair of defended passes and an interception. He also held opposing quarterbacks to a 57.1% completion percentage — the best of his career — and an 80.8 passer rating.

Hooker's performance last year came after he tore his Achilles during the 2020 campaign. Now that he's had a full season of football to get used to things, there's a good chance that he could be even better going forward.

Nevertheless, it'll take a lot more than Hooker to turn the Giants into a credible threat next season. FanDuel Sportsbook is currently giving them +8000 odds (T-No. 26) to win Super Bowl LVII.
