The San Francisco Giants are having a lot of success this season. After going four seasons in a row without a playoff appearance, the Giants currently have a 28-19 record and are in sole possession of the second National League Wild Card spot.
However, making the playoffs is far from a guarantee for San Francisco. The NL West is extremely tight as the Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres are all within 1.5 games of the division lead. With that being said, the Giants may need to think about making some trades to improve their playoff odds.
Here's a look at three players that the Giants should trade for ahead of the MLB trade deadline in July.
San Francisco Giants Trade Rumors
3. Luis Castillo, SP
Luis Castillo has not been having a great 2021 MLB season. The former All-Star is 1-7 on the season with a 7.61 ERA, but that also means that his stock could be at an all-time low. If the Giants believe that a change in scenery could turn things around for the 28-year-old, they should go after him. After all, it was only last season when he pitched to a 3.21 ERA through 70.0 innings pitched while striking out 11.4 batters per nine innings. Assuming he can get back to form, Castillo could help the Giants maintain their status as National League threats.
2. Adam Duvall, OF/1B
The Miami Marlins could miss the playoffs this season, putting them in the spot of being deadline sellers. That means that Adam Duvall could be on his way out of town, especially with him being an upcoming free agent. Considering how the Giants' outfield is a bit weak at the plate right now, Duvall could bring in some much-needed power. While he already has 9 home runs on the year, Duvall was on pace for 45 last season if it was a typical 162-game campaign. Needless to say, his bat could help the Giants out a lot.
1. Jose Berrios, SP
The Giants already have the 6th-best team ERA in the MLB, but they have a chance to make it that much better by adding Jose Berrios. It's not like the Minnesota Twins are challenging for a playoff spot, so it makes sense for them to move on from him. Besides, as good as the Giants' pitchers have been, they've had their fair share of injuries. Berrios would bring some extra help to the rotation with his 3.91 ERA and 56 strikeouts through 50.2 innings pitched.
