The New York Giants have a chance to grab some elite talent in the upcoming NFL Draft with a pair of top-10 picks. Taking advantage of that opportunity would be a great first step in turning things around. That simply isn't what Todd McShay projects to happen in his latest 2022 mock draft, though.

Giants Mock Draft

McShay has the Giants landing Georgia edge rusher Travon Walker at No. 5 overall before selecting Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson at No. 7. Each of these picks address a position of need, but it is confusing to understand why the team decides to pass on Kayvon Thibodeaux both times.

Thibodeaux ends up being mocked to the Seattle Seahawks at No. 9 by McShay in this edition. Once heralded as the possible No. 1 prospect, that is an absolute steal. The Oregon standout has a deep arsenal of pass rushing techniques at his disposal to use in order to get to the opposing quarterback.

It's worth noting that the Giants finished the 2021 season tied for 22nd in the NFL with 34.0 sacks. Thibodeaux dominated his sophomore season by posting 7.0 sacks and 46 pressures. Meanwhile, Walker logged 6.0 sacks and 29 pressures despite playing in three more games.

This seems like a move a front office would make when it wants to prove to the rest of the league how smart it is rather than taking the sure thing. Adding Thibodeaux to a defensive line that already features Leonard Williams and Azeez Ojulari would give the Giants a scary trio for years to come.

The 2022 NFL Draft is set to start on Thursday, April 28.
