The San Francisco Giants are the best team in baseball. Their 48-26 record is tops across the majors and they sit 4.0 games ahead of the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.
But first baseman Brandon Belt could be headed for another stint on the injured list after Wednesday's game.
Brandon Belt Injury Update
Belt made a dash to home plate against the Philadelphia Phillies but came up limping and was easily tagged out. He then fell to the grass in obvious pain while holding his right leg. Manager Gabe Kapler said after the game that Belt suffered a right knee injury. Given how Belt reacted, the ailment is a serious cause for concern.
Belt has hit 11 home runs and 28 RBI for San Francisco while slashing .253/.363/.512 in 2021. The first baseman previously missed 11 games this season with a left oblique strain.
Potentially losing Belt for another chunk of games would be a blow to the Giants' offense given the pop he brings. Reinforcements are on the way, though an MRI will make it clear just how long San Francisco will need to stay afloat without their All-Star in the lineup.
