The MLB free agency window opens officially on Thursday, jumpstarting the offseason into full swing. Teams around baseball will look to identify their biggest roster needs heading into winter, including the Boston Red Sox.

Boston limped to a last-place finish in the AL East and has several important areas to improve. The starting rotation is a glaring need for the Red Sox with several of their starting pitchers headed for free agency following a year where Boston had the seventh-highest ERA in baseball.

Fortunately, early MLB free agency rumors have already linked the Red Sox to a veteran All-Star.

Red Sox Free Agency Rumors

MLB insider Jon Morosi reports that Boston is "among teams showing interest" in Tyler Anderson. Anderson spent 2022 with the Los Angeles Dodgers before hitting free agency, although LA may offer the lefty a qualifying offer.

Qualifying offers are worth $19.65 million this offseason, which is a bump from Anderson's projected average annual value (AAV) of $13.6 million per Spotrac. Anderson is likely to consider length of contract in any free agency negotiations as well.

At 32, Anderson is coming off the best season of his seven-year MLB career. He went 15-5 with a 2.57 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP while making the All-Star team and helping the Dodgers win the NL West.

With their rotation in rough shape at the moment, the Red Sox could certainly use a pitcher of Anderson's caliber.
