The Philadelphia Eagles pulled off one of the most shocking moves during Night 1 of the 2022 NFL Draft when they acquired Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown for the cost of the No. 18 and 101 overall picks.
The Eagles couldn't turn down the opportunity to trade for a player of Brown's caliber, especially with him only being 24 years old and already playing like a WR1. With Brown adding a much-needed boost to the passing game, Philadelphia's Super Bowl LVII odds have since skyrocketed following the trade.
Eagles Super Bowl Odds
Before last night, FanDuel Sportsbook listed the Eagles with +4400 odds to win the Super Bowl next February. However, those odds have since jumped up to +3500, giving them the 16th-best spot in the league.
The Eagles only averaged 202.7 passing yards (No. 21) and 18.3 completions (No. 31) per game in 2021. Add in the fact that DeVonta Smith (916) and Quez Watkins (647) were the only Philadelphia wideouts to hit the 300-yard mark and it's easy to see why Brown was needed.
The 24-year-old wideout — who immediately signed a four-year, $100 million extension after the trade — already has two 1,000-yard campaigns under his belt since 2019 and would've made it three in a row last season had it not been for injuries. He also has 100-plus receptions in back-to-back years and should take a lot of attention off of Smith.
There's no doubting Brown and Smith's talents, which leaves Jalen Hurts as the wild card in this situation. The third-year quarterback has been inconsistent in his young career and hasn't put up the numbers that Brown is used to seeing with Ryan Tannehill in Tennessee.
If Hurts can take the next step forward, the sky's the limit for him with Brown and Smith at his disposal. If he continues to struggle, it'll be interesting to see how the Eagles address their quarterback situation in 2023.
