The Philadelphia Eagles will be without veteran safety Rodney McLeod this weekend as they attempt to start a season by going 2-0 for the first time since 2016.

McLeod was limited at Friday's practice, leading to him officially being ruled out for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers with an ACL injury that prematurely ended his 2020 campaign. This announcement will be a disappointment for Eagles fans after the 31-year-old missed the season opener due to the same injury.

Rodney McLeod Injury Update

Obviously, the Eagles don't want to rush McLeod before he's ready. Still, that doesn't take away from the fact that this knee injury is frustrating after he's been a mostly healthy player throughout his career. After all, he's played 16 games in a season six times in his nine-year career while only playing fewer than 13 once.

McLeod had been solid for Philadelphia last year before his ACL injury derailed his season. He had started in 13 of 13 games for the Eagles, finishing with 66 total tackles, 7 passes defended, an interception and a pair of fumble recoveries.

With or without their veteran safety, the Eagles will have their hands full when they face the 49ers this Sunday. The game is projected to be a high-scoring affair with the total being favored at -114 odds to go over 49.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

FanDuel Sportsbook is projecting San Francisco to win the contest at -162 odds while Philadelphia enters as the +136 home underdog.
