The Houston Astros head into the 2022 season as the class of the American League following five consecutive ALCS appearances. Carlos Correa's departure was the biggest move during the offseason, but the rest of this championship core is in place for another deep postseason run.
MLB teams will begin the season with expanded 28-man rosters thanks to an abbreviated Spring Training. Astros manager Dusty Baker recently revealed his Opening Day roster ahead of April 7th's clash with the Los Angeles Angels.

As was expected, the Correa departure paved the way for top Astros' prospect Jeremy Pena to take over at shortstop. Pena is a grade-A defender who may need some continued seasoning at the plate, but the job is his.
A quiet offseason left Baker and his staff only a few difficult decisions ahead of Opening Day. This roster is full of the usual suspects, including Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Yordan Alavarez, Kyle Tucker and more.
Houston fans will also pay close attention to Justin Verlander's return. Verlander will make his official return from Tommy John surgery during the third game of the year, his first big league appearance since July 2020.
Pitchers Bryan Abreu and Ronel Blanco secured the last of Houston's expanded roster spots. Abreu struggled with a 5.75 ERA in 31 appearances a year ago, but is expected to eat up innings early on.
