The month of July hasn't exactly been easy for Los Angeles Dodgers fans. Not to be mistaken, this is still one of the best teams in the MLB, but the Dodgers have played just one game above .500 baseball in July (10-9). Los Angeles also just lost three of four to the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants and find themselves 3.0 games back in the division standings.

This is uncharted territory for the defending World Series champions. On Friday, the news got worse. In Friday night's 9-6 loss to the lowly Colorado Rockies, the Dodgers got a bit of scary injury news. Former MVP center fielder Cody Bellinger exited the game after eight innings with a potential injury.

Cody Bellinger Injury Update

According to the reports, the injury is being classified as hamstring tightness. Manager Dave Roberts already declared that Bellinger will sit on Saturday and is listed as "day-to-day." Roberts did offer a bit of optimisim, however, stating he hopes the Dodgers "got ahead of it."

Only time will tell, but with the Dodgers sitting in second place this late into the season, they'll need the full strength of their roster down the stretch. On the year, Bellinger hasn't played up to his MVP standards. He's missed multiple stints on the injured list and is slashing just .162/.276/.284 with 4 home runs and 20 RBIs across 42 games.

The hope is that some time off can get Bellinger back to his elite level of play. A healthy and elite Bellinger goes a long way in this Dodgers lineup. Currently, Los Angeles remains the World Series favorite (+390), according to MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook. However, if they fall any further in the division standings, don't be surprised by a shakeup in those odds.
