Georgia running back D'Andre Swift came off the board at the top of Round 2, landing with the Detroit Lions at No. 34 overall. Now playing in a backfield that already features Kerryon Johnson, Swift's fantasy football value is difficult to project going forward.

D'Andre Swift Fantasy Football Value

Swift is coming off a 2019 junior season that saw him run the ball 196 times for 1,218 yards, bringing his career totals to 2,885 yards (6.6 per carry) and 20 total touchdowns at Georgia. He also added 666 yards and 5 touchdowns on 73 receptions, showing the kind of versatility we want to see in today's NFL, and in fantasy football.

His combine performance was nothing special outside of his solid 4.48-second 40-yard dash, but with strong college production and high draft capital behind him, he should be a contributor from day one in Detroit.

However, he's clearly going to be mired in a timeshare with the Lions' incumbent starter. Last season, Kerryon Johnson averaged 17.6 opportunities (carries plus targets) per game. He's also been pretty effective, averaging 4.5 yards per carry over his first two years in the NFL.

That said, he does have major injury issues, having missed a combined 14 games over the past two seasons.

When Johnson is on the field, Swift could have a hard time seeing a consistent workload, making him difficult to trust. But if Johnson gets hurt again, Swift has some big-time upside in the 2020 season.
