The Chicago Cubs are losing ground in the NL Central race. They now sit 5.0 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers for first place after falling in the first two matchups of their current three-game series.
Chicago has been without star first baseman Anthony RIzzo during this divisional clash, though he may be approaching a return soon.
Anthony Rizzo Injury Update
Rizzo left last Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers with lower back tightness that has sidelined him. However, he said on Wednesday that his injury recovery is coming along and he could return in "a couple days."
It's great news this injury isn't long term and might not require an injured list stint. Having him sit for a couple of days is a small price to pay in order to have him back at 100%. He's hit 10 home runs and 32 RBI this season while slashing .248/.344/.442, so he'll bring an immediate boost back to the lineup when he's cleared for action.
A healthy Rizzo will be key to Chicago making up ground on the Brewers in July. Chicago currently has the second-best odds (+360) to win the division, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
