Cowboys Potential 17th Opponent Revealed Following 2021 NFL Schedule Change
By Max Staley
The NFL is gearing up to make a significant change to the 2021 schedule, adding a 17th game to the usual 16-game slate for each team. There won't be any added bye weeks, meaning players will now be asked to play 17 games in 18 weeks. It's still not official quite yet, but at this point, it would be surprising if it wasn't implemented in 2021.
The NFL had an established formula for creating the schedule each year, so the league had to find a new method to account for the extra 17th game. It's a rather confusing process, which Peter King went into detail on here. But we now have a sense on who each team will be playing in this extra game, though we still don't know when everything will occur.
And one of the most interesting extra matchups looks like it will be the Dallas Cowboys taking on the New England Patriots in Foxborough.
Cowboys-Patriots 17th Game 2021 Season
If all goes according to plan, it looks like the Cowboys will be traveling to Foxborough to take on the new-look Patriots. This is an intriguing matchup between two teams who missed out on the postseason last year but look poised for bounce-back seasons in 2021.
The Cowboys are 7-6 in their 13 all-time, head-to-head meetings against the Patriots. New England emerged victorious in the most recent meeting between these two, winning 13-9 in late November of 2019.
Cowboys fans will surely be hoping for a different result this time around.
