The Seattle Seahawks traded for defensive end Carlos Dunlap before the 2020 trade deadline, and the veteran performed with five sacks in the eight games he appeared in. Unfortunately for Dunlap, he was a cap casualty this offseason, as he was set to carry a $14 million cap hit in 2021.

Now a free agent, Dunlap is looking for the right fit ahead of his age-32 season. Here are three of the best destinations for the former Cincinnati Bengal.

3. Kansas City Chiefs

The back-to-back AFC champs could use an experienced defensive end to pair with Frank Clark and Chris Jones. Surprisingly, KC ranks ninth in available cap space despite entering the offseason with very little wiggle room, which is a credit to general manager Brett Veach. He could use that space to add Dunlap as the Chiefs try their luck at a third straight Super Bowl appearance.

2. Indianapolis Colts

With Justin Houston likely heading elsewhere in free agency, adding Dunlap would be a no-brainer for the Indianapolis Colts. Their rising defense could use his experience on the edge to take them over the top. Alongside defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, the two would be an intimidating combination for opposing offensive linemen. As for Dunlap, the Colts may be the team poised to offer him the most money, as Indianapolis has the second-most available cap space in the NFL.

1. Seattle Seahawks

Though the Seahawks released Dunlap, a reunion between the two still makes a ton of sense. The best replacement for the former Bengal might be the veteran himself. Even after signing Kerry Hyder, this Seahawks' pass-rushing unit is not where it needs to be. In fact, Dunlap generated 14 QB hits for the Seahawks in 2020, which was tied for the team-high despite the fact that he only played eight games for Seattle. That's not someone this pass-rush can afford to lose. Without the financial flexibility to sign a viable replacement, the Seahawks' best bet is to hope they can land Dunlap on a team-friendly deal.
