Cardinals Visit With Pro-Bowl RB in Free Agency

Even though the NFL is about a month into free agency, there are still some talented running backs that remain unsigned.
The Arizona Cardinals are a team that could use some help at RB. After the organization allowed Kenyan Drake to walk in free agency, Chase Edmonds is at the top of the depth chart.
However, that could change as Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Cardinals will be meeting with former Pittsburgh Steelers and Pro-Bowl running back James Conner.
James Conner, one of the top FAs available, will have a physical on his visit to the #AZCardinals today, and that takes on increased importance given the recent surgery. But he should have no issues going foward, source said. https://t.co/rD4s5SV97R

Cardinals James Conner Rumors
Conner suited up in 13 games for the Steelers in 2020, rushing for 721 yards and 6 touchdowns. While he became less involved in the passing games as each season passed, Conner still put up 215 receiving yards on 35 receptions last season.
Overall, the rushing game was extremely important to the Cardinals' success last season. The team averaged 139.8 rushing yards (6th) and 1.4 touchdowns on the ground (T-3rd) per game in 2020. A lot of the ground yardage came from Kyler Murray (819 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 133 attempts), but the Cardinals will still need a reliable running back to keep the offense flowing.
While Edmonds did have 850 all-purpose yards and touchdowns last season, he's better suited for the passing game.
If the Cardinals manage to sign Conner, it could be a big win for the team. He'd be a suitable addition to Arizona's backfield and could split rushing duties with Edmonds.
