After playing in the first two games of the season, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has now sat out the team's past five games due to a foot injury. Although many thought Cam could be getting back to the field soon, new updates seem to indicate that it might be a while before we see the former MVP.
The good news for Newton is that it appears he won't need surgery on his foot. The bad news, however, is that he'll likely remain sidelined for the next few weeks, and could even be placed on the injured reserve.
In Newton's absence, backup Kyle Allen has led the Panthers to a 4-1 record, with their only loss during that stretch coming last week against the San Francisco 49ers.
This latest injury update is also likely good news for Christian McCaffrey, who has been playing at an MVP level since Allen took over.
At this point, Newton doesn't offer much fantasy value and is best viewed as something of a lottery ticket. He's likely to remain sidelined for the next few weeks, but if he surprisingly makes a return soon, Newton could be a great fantasy asset down the stretch.
