Dallas Cowboys fans know that the team will only go as far as quarterback Dak Prescott can take them, but he has to be healthy in order to do that. His latest injury update creates some concern for opening night and could lead to a blowout win for the reigning champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Cowboys News

The opening night matchup between two storied franchises is set to take place just in just under three weeks and it seems like Prescott may not be ready to go in time, or that he won't be fully healthy if he does play. The Cowboys leader is still recovering from an ankle injury as well as a shoulder strain that has kept him out of practice so far.

ESPN's Adam Schefter suggests that Prescott may not be fully himself when the 2021 season kicks off. There is a good chance his injuries continue to linger and cause him to change his style of play. The 28-year-old has been adamant that he will be fully healthy by the time Week 1 rolls around, though.

If Prescott cannot play in Week 1, the Buccaneers would be trending for an opening night blowout. Backup quarterback Garrett Gilbert has started just one game in his career and Tampa Bay should have no trouble carving up a Dallas defense that allowed 29.6 points per game in 2020 (No. 28 in NFL).

The Buccaneers are currently -430 moneyline favorites against the Cowboys with a spread of -8.5, according to Week 1 NFL odds posted FanDuel Sportsbook. Those numbers are sure to keep changing one way or another as Prescott's injury updates continue to get released every day.
