The Tampa Bay Buccaneers head into the 2021 NFL Draft after being active in free agency and re-signing most of the team's key players during their Super Bowl run last season. The Bucs have eight picks in the upcoming draft to round out this talented roster led by Tom Brady.
Head coach Bruce Arians has hinted at one position Tampa may address in the draft.
Buccaneers NFL Draft Rumors
Arians says he "wouldn't be against" taking a quarterback in the draft. Obviously, Brady is still playing at an elite level and will be the Bucs' starter for as long as he wants. But it'd be smart for Tampa to think about its post-Brady future.
The Bucs don't even need to trade up to find a possible Brady successor. They could take a shot on someone like Kyle Trask, Kellen Mond or Davis Mills at the end of the first or second round if they're serious about addressing Brady's potential backup. Nabbing a quarterback at the end of the first round would also grant them the ever-valuable fifth-year option on that player's rookie contract.
Tampa has the luxury of using that draft capital if they want since this roster is already loaded, returning each of the 22 starters from their championship team. The Bucs will compete for years to come, but they can also bring in a young QB now to soak in as much knowledge as they can from Brady, setting Tampa up to succeed even after Brady hangs his cleats up.
