The Cleveland Browns' defense has been plagued by injuries throughout the 2022 NFL campaign. While the situation has improved in recent weeks, Browns fans will be thrilled to know that even more reinforcements are incoming ahead of a Week 11 tilt with the Buffalo Bills.

The Browns announced on Saturday that they have activated defensive end Chase Winovich from the injured reserve. The former 2019 third-round has been dealing with a hamstring injury that's kept him out of the lineup since Week 2, leaving time to tell if the extra pass-rush depth helps Cleveland turn things around.

Chase Winovich Injury Update

With Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney also having dealt with injuries this season, the Browns' pass rush has been uninspiring. The unit has recorded just 20 sacks (T-11th worst) while no Cleveland player has more than three quarterback hits other than Garrett with 11.

It'll be interesting to see Winovich's role in his return. He only played 26 defensive snaps in two outings this season, recording a solo tackle with two QB hits. Other than that, he's spent most of his playing time in a special teams role.

Nevertheless, Winovich has proven that he can step up when given a bigger role. The Jefferson Hills, PA native racked up 11 sacks in 32 games (nine starts) with the New England Patriots between 2019 and 2020. If Garrett or Clowney are sidelined again, the Browns can rest easy knowing that they have a capable backup in Winovich.

Due to massive snowfall in Buffalo, the upcoming Browns-Bills matchup has been moved to Ford Field in Detroit. Time will tell if Winovich and the rest of Cleveland's pass rush can have success against a Buffalo offensive line that's tied for the seventh-fewest sacks given up.
