Browns Get Terrible Jacob Phillips Injury Update

As the NFL preseason continues, the Cleveland Browns were the recipient of some terrible news on Friday. It was revealed that second-year linebacker Jacob Phillips will likely miss the entire 2021 NFL season after tearing his biceps tendon. This isn't the injury update that the Browns wanted, especially as Phillips was expected to be one of the main pieces of their defense.

Jacob Phillips Injury Update
A third-round selection at the 2020 NFL Draft, Phillips looked pretty solid in his rookie season. Injuries and a stint on the COVID-19 list led him to just nine games played (three starts), but he still ended the year with 25 total tackles and a pass breakup.
Phillips was listed as Anthony Walker Jr.'s backup at the middle linebacker position on Cleveland's depth chart. Now, his injury has created a depth issue that forced the Browns to go out and sign 2019 undrafted free agent LB Willie Harvey Jr. The 25-year-old had previously played for Cleveland in 2019 and recorded one assisted tackle in two games.

Injuries combined with one of the hardest schedules in the league could make life difficult for the Browns in 2021. Nevertheless, their +1600 odds to win Super Bowl 56 rank eighth best in the NFL, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
