The Cleveland Browns failed to live up to expectations this past NFL season and finished tied for last in the AFC North. The team is in need of some firepower on offense and has an opportunity to grab one in the upcoming NFL Draft. In fact, that is exactly what Todd McShay projects the Browns to do.
Browns Mock Draft
McShay projects Cleveland to be the landing spot for wide receiver Garrett Wilson at No. 13 overall. The pass-catcher out of Ohio State was the second WR taken off the board behind USC's Drake London, who was selected by the Atlanta Falcons with the No. 8 overall pick.
It's rather obvious that the Browns are in desperate need of some receiving help. Donovan People-Jones led the team with just 597 yards in 2021 and Jarvis Landry will be 30 years old next season. It's also worth noting that both tight end David Njoku and WR Rashard Higgins are set to be free agents.
Drafting Wilson is one way for Cleveland to immediately fill in a gap. The 21-year-old has elite speed and regularly creates space with his acceleration at the line of scrimmage. He may not be the biggest receiver in the class (6-foot, 192 pounds), but his body control allows him to haul in contested balls.
Overall, Wilson tallied 2,213 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns on 143 receptions across three college seasons (32 games played). Grabbing quarterback Baker Mayfield a new weapon will give the front office a peek into whether or not he is truly their franchise starter as well.
It's safe to say Browns fans will be tuning in when the 2022 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 28.
