The only way to twist the Denver Broncos trading of Von Miller, the face of their franchise, was shocking. The trade immediately caused a mass of speculation surrounding Denver's short-term future and if the team was heading into full rebuild mode.

General manager George Paton addressed those concerns on Tuesday and was adamant that would not be the case.

"We're not approaching a rebuild. We're just trying to do it the right way. Sometimes you have to make tough decisions. We want to build a foundation here. We have a lot of good players here. That's not fair to Justin Simmons; that's not fair to Teddy Bridgewater; that's not fair to some of our core guys to rebuild. I think we have enough players here. Now, do we need to continue to build the foundation to get where we need to go? Certainly. We will continue to do that, and that's what we've done with some of these trades."

Paton more than addresses these concerns and points to the talented young core of this roster including quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and safety Justin Simmons.

Denver finds themselves in a unique position. The team hasn't made the playoffs in five years and currently sits in third place in the AFC West with a 4-4 record. The Week 8 win over the Washington Football Team was an important step towards playoff contention. However, Denver also shares that 4-4 record with the Kansas City Chiefs, who are expected to turn things around in a crowded division.

Miller's trade is a tough blow from a chemistry standpoint, but he was headed for unrestricted free agency in 2022 and the return of 2022 second- and third-round draft picks is a good haul.
