The Atlanta Braves are currently in a tight battle for the NL East. Only three games separate the first-place New York Mets and the last-place Washington Nations, with the Braves right in the middle. However, Atlanta has lost four of their last six games and could certainly use a boost. Fortunately for the organization and its fans, help is one the way.

Outfielder Ronald Acuna will officially return to Atlanta's lineup Monday night, according to Braves beat reporter Mark Bowman. Considering how his first game back will be to kickstart a three-game series against the Mets, Acuna's return couldn't have come at a better time.

Ronald Acuna Injury Update

Acuna has been out of the lineup with an ankle injury. The 23-year-old missed Friday and Saturday's clashes with the Milwaukee Brewers before pinch-hitting for the Braves on Sunday. However, his ankle has healed enough to the point where he can get back into the outfield.

Before injuring his ankle, Acuna had been white-hot to start the 2021 campaign. He's currently in a four-way tie for the MLB league in home runs with 12, while also adding 24 RBIs. He's also having a career year when it comes to his hitting as he's currently slashing .300/.396/.646. Part of his success this season is that Acuna has been striking out less than he was in 2020. He had 60 strikeouts in 46 games last campaign (on-pace for 211 in 162 games), whereas he has just 24 in 36 contests in 2021 (on-pace for 108 in a full season).

Acuna's impressive season has not gone unnoticed by the baseball world. He's the current favorite to win the National League MVP Award at +240 odds, according to Fanduel Sportsbook. To put that into better context, the next closest player is Mets ace Jacob deGrom at +850 odds.
