The Cincinnati Bengals cut three veterans on Wednesday in order to make room for their waiver claims. Quarterback Brandon Allen, safety Michael J. Thomas and running back Trayveon Williams got the chop, but all three players were signed back onto the active roster by the Bengals on Friday.

Allen is a significant add considering the Bengals were left with only Joe Burrow at the position for a few days. The three-year pro started the final regular season game in 2021, completing 15 of his 29 pass attempts for 136 yards and one touchdown. Cincinnati fell to Kansas City by a score of 21-16.

Thomas returns to a secondary that is filled with talented players like Jessie Bates and Vonn Bell. The nine-year veteran appeared in eight games for Cincinnati last year and played a key role on the special teams unit (63% of snaps). He finished the season with 18.0 tackles and one pass breakup.

The backup job behind starter Joe Mixon is seemingly going to go to Samaje Perine or Chris Evans, but it's best not to rule out Williams yet. The former Texas A&M standout has averaged 5.1 yards per carry across 41 rushing attempts in the NFL and will be motivated to stand out during a contract year.

In a pair of corresponding moves, the Bengals placed safety Tycen Anderson (hamstring) and offensive tackle Isaiah Prince (elbow) on the reserve/injured list. Tight end Devin Asiasi, guard Max Scharping and defensive tackle Jay Tufele were the recent waiver claims mentioned earlier.

Cincinnati has odds set at +2200 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
