Baker Mayfield's Preferred Trade Destination Revealed

Quarterback Baker Mayfield's future with the Cleveland Browns has been in turmoil for the last week or so. The reason why is because team owner Jimmy Haslam believes that Deshaun Watson is the missing piece to the puzzle after meeting with the 26-year-old signal-caller on Tuesday afternoon.

The idea of acquiring Watson via trade obviously has to anger Mayfield. After all, he was praised as the franchise star after getting drafted No. 1 overall in 2018. Tony Pauline of ProFootballNetwork has reported that the Cleveland QB would prefer to go to the Indianapolis Colts if dealt from the team.

Baker Mayfield Trade Rumors

Mayfield's desire to join the Colts almost makes too much sense. Indianapolis boasts a top-10 defense and has one of the best running backs in the league in Jonathan Taylor. The starting QB spot remains open, too, after Carson Wentz was traded to Washington following a subpar 2021 season.

Head coach Frank Reich's team looks to be just a reliable quarterback away from becoming a legitimate playoff threat. Bringing Mayfield to town may be the best way to solve the issue. Simply put, it's a move that wouldn't break the bank as much as a free agent signing would.

Mayfield struggled to stay healthy in 2021, but it's important to remember what he is capable of when fully healthy. The 26-year-old led the Browns to a playoff berth just two seasons ago while tossing 26 touchdowns compared to 8 interceptions. He remains confident that he can get back to that form.

Keep an eye on the Colts front office as the offseason rolls on. Whether the Browns acquire Watson or not, it seems like Mayfield's time in Cleveland may be coming to a sour end.
