Art Rooney Has Intriguing Response to Mike Tomlin Contract Extension

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off yet another winning season. Despite it not being good enough to make the playoffs, head coach Mike Tomlin continued his streak of never recording a losing season at the helm of the Steelers.

Mike Tomlin's contract is set to expire after the 2024 season, but he has yet to receove a new extension, something the Steelers have done with him in the past. When asked about this Steelers' owner Art Rooney had a curious response, saying "You know, I don't like to speculate on coach's contract, so we'll see."

For a coach, owner and team that seem to have a wonderful relationship, Rooney's comments might give some people pause, mainly because no word on an extension has been reported.

While this could be a nothing burger that Rooney is just playing coy, and an extension could be in the works, Rooney also had every opportunity to indicate that or at least give a less ominous quote.

It's nearly impossible to imagine the Steelers considering moving on from Mike Tomlin, who is arguably the best head coach in the NFL right now. Tomlin is still under contract for the next two seasons, so he won't be going anywhere soon, maybe something has happened in contract talks this time around to give either side something to think about.
